Anise Cookies
.33 cup anise seed (cheapest in health food stores)
1 egg
3 Tbsp dark molassas
.33 cup evaporated milk
1 cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
3.33 cups flour
dash baking powder (a dash = half of a quarter tsp)
Chop anise seed in food processor or blender and mix with egg, milk & molassas. In mixer, cream margarine and brown sugar, then stir in flour and soda, alternately with anise seed mixture.
Chill untilfirm, then FORM into five logs, about 8 to 10 inches long. Wrap each in waxed paper and chill until firm.
To bake, slice about one eighth inch thick slices and bake at 375 for about 8 minutes.
NOTE: This dough does not get really firm, so it's easiest to slice & bake straight from the freezer.
