My Grandmother's Smothered Chicken
1 frying chicken
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. sage
1/4 tsp. savory
1/4 c. flour
1 medium onion, chopped
cooking oil (enough to deep
fry)
1 1/2 c. water
1/3 c. sour cream
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Cut chicken into serving pieces. Wash and dry. Sprinkle spices over chicken and roll in flour. Deep fry chicken in
hot oil.
Place fried chicken in a baking pan with onions and water. Cover and bake in 350 degrees oven for 30 minutes.
Mix sour cream with 1/4 cup water and add to chicken while hot.
