Tomato Dumplings
1 qt. cooked tomatoes
1/2 cup water
3/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 stick oleo
1 cup sugar
Pastry:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking powder
1/3 cup shortening
water
Bring tomatoes, water, salt, pepper, oleo and sugar to rolling boil.
For pastry combine dry ingredients.
Cut in shortening; add water to make stiff dough.
Roll thin; cut in 2-inch squares.
Roll squares in flour (this keeps dumplings from sticking together).
Drop squares individually, into boiling tomatoes.
Cover; then turn to low.
Cook 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
