Chees'n garlic Twist
1 pkg yeast
2 1/2 - 3 c flour
3/4 c milk
2 tbs butter
1 tsp salt
1/2 c cheese ( shredded cheddar, mozzarella, or swiss)
1 egg
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 c butter
1 beaten egg
In bowl combine yeast and 1 cup flour. In saucepan heat milk, butter
and salt until warm and butter almost melts.
Add to yeast mixture with 1/2 c cheese and first egg.Beat 3 min.
Then add we much of remaining flour as you can.
Turn out onto floured surface and knead in as much of the rest of the
rest of the flour until the dough is smooth and
elastic.
Place in warm place to rise until doubled ( about 1 1/2 hr.)
In small saucepan saute garlic in butter.
When risen, punch down dough and let rest 10 min. then roll out into a 20 x 9 inch rectangle.
Brush with garlic mixture and sprinkle with 1/2 c cheese. Roll up jelly roll fashion starting on the long side.
Pinch edge to seal. Cut in half lengthwise making two 20 inch portions.
Place side by side with cut edges up.
Moisten one end of each and press together to seal. Twist the two pieces
together severl times and moisten and
seal remaining ends.
Shape into a ring. Seal edges together. Place on greased baking sheet.
Cover and let rise till nearly double ( about
1 hour)
Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Brush with beaten egg and bake 5 min longer.
I have also used parmesan in the bread dough and then a mixture of
parmesan and sharp provolone in the filling.
