Baking Powder Biscuits
2 cups flour, sifted
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening or cooking oil
1 cup milk
Preheat oven to 450° F.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together in mixing bowl. Add shortening and cut in with pastry blender or 2 knives until particles are the size of rice grains. Add milk and stir until dough stiffens (still should be soft).
Turn dough onto floured board and knead from 12 to 15 times. Roll out 3/8 to 3/4 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter (or water glass) dipped in flour. Place on greased baking pan.
Bake 10 to 15 minutes at 450 degrees, depending on thickness or until they are golden brown.
