Herring Hall Spoonbread

Tom Bradshaw's Cabin is located on part of the Herring Hall Farm. Herring Hall was a famous dining and lodging place which closed in the 1960's. The plantation dates from around 1820.

1 quart sweet milk
6 eggs, well beaten
3/4 cup white corn meal
3 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup melted butter
3 Tablespoons white sugar


Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Beat eggs well; add milk, corn meal, butter, sugar, and baking powder. Stir with spoon until baking powder is well dissolved.

Pour into well-greased baking dish. Bake in 300-degree oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Cook until solid and golden brown.
