Christmas Stollen

2 lb. flour
3 pkg. dry yeast or any other
1 pt. milk
3 sticks butter
3/4 c. sugar
some powdered sugar
some salt (less if butter is salted)
peel of 2 lemons, ground
1 1/2 lb. raisins (regular or golden)
1 lb. fruitcake mix or citron or lemon
1/2 lb. almonds, peeled and ground or slivered
1 fl. oz. each of almond and vanilla flavoring

Make a well in your warmed flour. (Take big bowl, add yeast, warm milk and 1 tablespoon sugar.) Stir well and add some of the flour; stir again and let it rise. When risen, stir in all of the flour. Add warmed up butter and all other ingredients, except raisins and powdered sugar.

Work it well until the dough feels soft and smooth. Let it rise again. Knead again and add raisins; form a loaf, like a bread or use loaf pan.

With a knife, cut a straight line in the middle. Let it rise a little while and bake for 60 or more minutes at about 325 degrees. It is done when an inserted toothpick or small knife comes out clean.

Brush hot Stollen with melted butter and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Wait a day or longer before eating.
