Date Roll
1/2 c Crisco
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
2 eggs
1 t vanilla
2 1/4 c flour
1/8 t salt
1/2 t baking soda
1 package chopped dates
1/2 c water
1 c chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 350.
Batter:
Cream together Crisco, sugar, brown sugar.
Add eggs and vanilla. Add flour, salt and baking soda.
Blend
together. If too soft, add a little flour to make a pliable dough.
Chill in refrigerator. Leave at room temperature before using.
Filling:
Simmer together dates, walnuts and water until thick and mushy.
Divide batter into thirds. Roll between 2 pieces of saran wrap into an
18" square and spread filling over.
Roll jelly
rolly fashion. Seal ends.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Bake for 1/2 hour.
