Orange Pecan House Toast
2/3 cup orange juice
1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup Orange Liqueur
1 tablespoon orange zest
Italian or French bread 1 inch thick slices
1/3 cup melted butter or margarine
1/2 cup pecan pieces
With wire whisk beat together eggs, orange juice, milk, sugar, nutmeg, vanilla, orange zest and orange liqueur.
Place bread in single layer in tight fitting casserole.
Pour milk mixture over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight turning once. Preheat oven to 400 degress.
Pour melted butter on jelly roll pan spreading evenly. Arrange soaked bread slices in single layer on pan.
Sprinkle with pecans. Bake until golden, 20 to 25 minutes.
As option, may place under broiler for 1 to 2 minutes to give a toasty appearance, sprinkle with powder sugar.
Remove from pan onto garnished plate and serve immediately. Serve with maple syrup or with fresh fruit. Serves 4
