Chocolate Sheet Cake
1 stick butter (1/4 lb.)
1/2 cup Crisco shortening
4 Tblsp. cocoa
1 cup water
2 cups sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 eggs (well beaten)
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9x13 dish or pan. In a saucepan combine butter, shortening, cocoa and water; bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add sugar and flour, slowly combining both mixtures. Add eggs, buttermilk, soda and vanilla. Thoroughly mixing by hand. Pour batter into dish and bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes.
Icing:
1 stick butter (1/4 lb.)
4 Tblsp. cocoa
6 Tblsp. buttermilk
1 (l lb.) box confectioner's sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
In a saucepan, combine and bring to a boil butter, cocoa, and buttermilk. Remove from heat and add confectioners’ sugar and pecans. Mix until smooth and pour over hot cake.
