Fig Cake

2 cups self rising flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup cooking oil
3 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup fig preserves, drained, stemmed, chopped
1 cup chopped nuts, optional
1 T vanilla

Sift flour and sugar, add oil & eggs. Add slowly,buttermilk, preserves, nuts. Beat well. Add vanilla. Pour in greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 325' 45 minutes probably longer- test with straw.

Sauce:: optional
1 cup sugar
1 stick margarine
1 T corn syrup
1 T vanilla
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 t soda

Mix in deep pot, boil 3 minutes. Spread on warm cake which has been removed from pan.
