Ghirardelli Chocolate Cake
2/3 c. solid white shortening
1 1/4 cup buttermilk
1 1/4 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 1/4 cup sweet ground chocolate
2 1/4 cup sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease and flour two 9 inch pans.
Cream shortening with sugar, add eggs and chocolate until creamy, sift flour, soda and salt, add alternating
with buttermilk to creamed mixture.
Beat at medium speed for 3 minutes.
Bake for 30 minutes or until done.
Frosting: Mix 3/4 cup cocoa with 4 cups powdered sugar.
Cream 1/2 cup butter, add cocoa mixture alternating with 1/2 cup milk.
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
