Hershey's Chocolate Cake

2 cups sugar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup Hershey's cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspon salt
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk or sour milk*
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup very hot coffee (instant is okay)


Heat oven to 350. Grease and flour 2 9"-round pans or 13x9 rectangular pan.

Combine dry ingredients in a large mixer bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Remove from mixer. Stir in hot coffee (batter will be thin). Pour into prepared pans.

Bake 30 to 35 minutes for round pans or 35 to 40 minutes for rectangular pan or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake 10 minutes. Remove from pans, if desired. Cool completely. Frost with chocolate buttercream frosting.


Hershey's One Bowl Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:
6 tablespoons butter, softened
2 2/3 cups powdered sugar, sifted if necessary
1/2 cup Hershey's cocoa
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract


In small mixer bowl, beat butter. Add powdered sugar and cocoa alternately with milk; beat to spreading consistency (additional drops of milk may be needed). Blend in vanilla.
About 2 cups of frosting.
