Hungarian cake Apricot Nut Lattice Cake

3/4 cup sugar
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 sticks margarine (I use butter)
3 egg yolks
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 cup sour cream

Combine sugar, flour, baking powder and margarine or butter and work together well before adding beaten egg yolks, vanilla and sour cream. Work into a soft dough.

Cover and chill. After chilled, divide dough into two parts. Pat one half into lightly greased 9 x 13 inch pan or roll out to fit into pan.

Filling:
2 cups chopped nuts
dash salt
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 well beaten egg whites
1 1/2 pounds apricot filling

Blend nuts, salt, sugar, vanilla and well beaten egg whites. Spread over layer of dough. Spread apricot filling over egg-white layer. (Can use prune filling instead of apricot.)

Roll out other half of dough and cut into strips and use to make a lattice top.

Brush with a beaten egg and bake 40 minutes in 350 degree oven. This is a delicious dessert.

Have always had raves when I prepared it. (Also a very old recipe - have had it for many years.)
