Mardi Gras King Cake

1 1/2 c. warm water
2 (1/4 oz.) pkg. yeast
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter, softened
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 (1-inch) china or plastic baby doll
butter cream icing and colored sugar


In large bowl dissolve yeast in water, stir until yeast dissolves.
Add sugar and butter. Blend well. Stir in flour and spices, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well. Set in draft free place; allow to rise double in bulk, covered. Punch down, turn dough onto floured board. Knead until smooth.

Shape into large donut shape on a greased cookie sheet. Allow to rise double in size.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake in 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes until golden brown. Cool.
Insert baby doll into cake. Ice with green, purple and gold butter cream icing. Sprinkle with colored sugar.

Serves 10 to 12.
