White Cooked Frosting

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup whole milk
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup Crisco
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla extract

In a small saucepan, cook flour and milk over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and begins to boil. Off heat. Cool.

In a large bowl, cream together sugar, Crisco and butter. Add milk mixture and beat until sugar crystals disappear, about 5 minutes on high speed. Add vanilla.

This makes enough to frost a triple layer chocolate cake. The trick is to keep checking the frosting to make sure that the sugar has all dissolved, giving you a lovely, smooth frosting.
