Cream Pound Cake

1 cup butter, softened (no substitutes!)
1/2 cup shortening (I used butter-flavored Crisco)
3 cups sugar
6 eggs
1-1/4 cups heavy cream
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 Tblsp. vanilla extract


Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of electric mixer. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour and baking powder; add to creamed mixture alternately with cream, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix just until blended after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 1 hour and 40 to 45 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake in pan 10 to 15 minutes; remove from pan and cool completely.
