Name: Sponge Candy
Ingredients:
1 c. sugar
1 c. dark corn syrup
1 T. white vinegar
1 T baking soda, sifted
Instructions: Line an 8x12" baking pan with foil, buttering generously. Set aside.
Combine remaining ingredients, except for baking soda in a heavy, deep saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Continue cooking without stirring till candy thermometer registers 300F, swirling pan occasionally (18 minutes or so).
Remove from heat-immediately add baking soda and stir until combined. Immediately pour into pan. Cool completely. Break candy into pieces. Cover with chocolate if desired.
