Frosted Molasses Cream Bars

1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 cup light molasses
1/2 cup strong coffee or milk (heated)
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup (or more) raisins

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar, add egg and molasses, mixing well. Add heated coffee or milk.

Sift flour and all dry ingredients together. Add dry ingred. and beat well, until smooth. Add raisins. Pour into greased 9 x 13 inch pan.

Bake in 350 degree oven for 25 minutes. While warm frost with favorite vanilla frosting. Cool and cut into bars. Makes about 18 bars.
