2 1/3 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon mace
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter -- softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs -- * see note
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon orange or lemon extract
1/2 cup almonds -- toasted and chopped
1/2 cup each candied cherries -- red and green


Combine dry ingredients and set aside.

Cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and extracts. Stir in dry ingredients, then almonds and cherries.

Divide dough in half. Place one half on lightly greased baking sheet. Make into logs aboutt 2 1/2 inches wide. Bake at 325 degrees for 25 mins or till golden brown.

Remove and cool for 5 mins. Slice and return to oven for 10 mins longer or till dry. Cool.

Makes 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
