Brownies: Betty Crocker Original Brownies

Betty Crocker Original Brownies

1/3 cup shortening (Crisco or something similar)
2 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate (really good chocolate makes a difference. Bakers is fine but best with Ghiardelli or something exotic like that.)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup flour
1 tsp. vanilla
chopped nuts, optional

Melt the shortening and chocolate (microwave, if desired). Beat in sugar and eggs. In another bowl mix together salt, baking powder and flour; add to egg mixture.
Stir in vanilla. You can also add chopped nuts if you want to.

This makes a pretty gooey batter--you will have to spread it in the pan as it will not pour.
Spread evenly in well-greased pan. Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes or a bit longer for the 9 by 13 pan.
