Blonde Brownies

1/4 cup butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup sourdough starter
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup coarsely chopped nuts
6 oz chocolate chips

Generously grease an 8 inch pan and set aside. Preheat the oven to 350F.

In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla until the mixture is fluffy. Next, stir in the sourdough starter and set aside. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda and salt. Stir into the sourdough mixture until well blended. Stir in the nuts. Spread into the prepared pan. For a more even surface after baking, make the batter higher in the center of the pan.

Bake in a preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the surface springs back when touched with your finger. Do not over bake. Sprinkle the top with chocolate pieces. Let stand for 5 minutes, then spread to make icing.
