Caramel Brownies

1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
1 can evaporated milk, divided
1 1/2 sticks butter or margarine, melted
1/2 c. pecans or walnuts, chopped
1 pkg. Kraft caramels
6 oz. chocolate chips


Mix cake mix with 1/3 c. milk, nuts and butter or margarine. Divide mixture in half; press half into greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350° for about 6 minutes. Place caramels in microwave-safe bowl; add 1/4 to 1/3 c. evaporated milk. Heat until melted, about 3 minutes. Blend well.

Allow cake to cool slightly and slowly drizzle caramel mixture over top, being careful not to touch edge of pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top and return to oven. Continue to bake for 15 minutes longer.
