Cream Cheese Marbled Brownies

4 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Melt chocolate in top of a double boiler over hot water; set aside to cool.

Cream butter; gradually add 2 cups sugar, beating well. Add 3 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir melted chocolate into butter mixture. Add flour, salt, walnuts, and 1 tsp. vanilla, stirring well.
Pour batter into a greased and flour 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking pan; set aside.

In small bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth; gradually add 1/2 cup sugar, beating well. Drop mixture by heaping tablespoonfuls over chocolate mixture. Swirl cream cheese mixture into chocolate mixture with a knife. Bake at 350° F. for 45 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. Yield: 3-1/2 dozen.
