Marbled Brownies

Cream cheese filling:
6 ounces cream cheese
4 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon vanilla

Brownie batter:
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
8 Tablespoons unsalted butter
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Adjust rack in lower third of the oven and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 13 X 9-inch pan.

In a medium bowl, cream the cream cheese with the butter. Add the sugar and continue to until mixture is light and fluffy. Stir in the eggs, one at a time. Add the flour and vanilla. Set aside.

In a small bowl, whisk briefly the flour and baking powder to combine. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt butter and chocolate until smooth; set aside to cool.

In a medium bowl, whip eggs until frothy, then gradually add sugar and whip until thick and light in color. Add flour mixture, then stir in chocolate mixture. Add nuts and vanilla.

Spread half the brownie batter in the pan and spread cream cheese filling on top. Spoon dollops of remaining brownie mixture over cheese filling. With the blade of a table knife, cut through the batter just a few times to create a marble effect. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes. Cool before cutting into 36 bars.
