Brownies
Makes 60 brownies

1 cup vegetable shortening
4 squares semi sweet chocolate
4 eggs beaten slightly
2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cups nuts chopped (optional)
3 tablespoons light corn syrup

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In top of double boiler or microwave, melt chocolate and shortening, watching carefully to avoid scorching. Pour into a large bowl. (Be sure to use a rubber spatula to get all chocolate out of saucepan.) Add lightly beaten eggs and then gradually add sugar, mixing thoroughly.

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to chocolate mixture and blend well. Lastly mix in vanilla, nuts and syrup.

Pour batter into greased 9 x 13 pan and bake for 25 minutes.

Cool pan on wire rack. Cut into squares when cool.

These freeze perfectly, and are still delicious as long as 6 months later.
