Chocolate Crisps

Chocolate Crisps

1 1/4 c flour, sifted
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c shortening
1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c granulated sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 c broken nuts
1/2 pound sweet baking chocolate

Preheat oven to 400.

Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Cream shortening. Gradually add both sugars to creamed shortening, blending well. Stir unbeaten egg and vanilla into shortening mixutre. Add sifted ingredients, then stir in then nuts.

Break chocolate into small pieces (a food processor is helpful here, or a chopper of type, although even a grater will work). Stir in small pieces of chocolate. Mix well.

Drop on an ungreased baking sheet, approximately 2 inches apart, using a teaspoonful of batter. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes. Makes approximately 4 dozen cookies.
