Formed Cookies Anise Knots

Anise Knots

1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, slightly soft
1/2 cup Crisco®
1 1/2 cups anise sugar with seeds
6 eggs
1/4 tsp anise oil
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
5 cups flour
Powdered Sugar glaze
Colored sprinkles if desired


Preheat oven to 350° F.

Cream the butter, Crisco and sugar until light and fluffy, several minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, and flavor, scrape the bowl.

Add the dry ingredients and mix until incorporated. Roll pieces of dough into ropes about 6-inches long and the thickness of your finger. Twist into a knot and place on a parchment covered sheet pan.

Bake at 350º unitl they are set and the bottoms are light golden. The tops do not take on much color. When cooled, dip the tops into a powdered sugar glaze (powdered sugar and milk or water) and then sprinkle with colored sprinkles if desired.
