Big Fat Cherry Cookies

1 cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups all-purpose flour, additional
1 can cherry pie filling
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Cream together margarine and sugars. Add eggs and flavorings. Sift together and add dry ingredients. Blend well and then add last 2 cups of flour with milk. Chill dough and roll into balls. Flatten a little with thumb while holding the dough in the palm of your hand. Place on a cookie sheet sprayed with Pam.
Stir cherry filling and almond flavoring together. Place one or two cherries with juice in the center of each cookie. Then flatten another ball of dough and place it on top of first cookie and filling. Crimp edges slightly to seal.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or till brown. Cool. Ice with a glaze made from powdered sugar, hot water and a few drops of almond flavoring (don't use to much as almond flavoring is strong). Let dry for an hour. Store in covered container with wax paper between layers.
