Pfeffernusse
Makes 4 dozen
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon each cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and baking powder
1/2 teaspoon mace
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 1/4 cups liquid honey
2 tablespoons butter
2 eggs
1 cup icing sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 to 2 tablespoons water
Preheat oven to 325° F. and grease cookie sheet.
Sift first 7 ingredients into a large bowl.
Cook honey and butter low heat until butter melts.
Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm then beat in eggs.
Add honey to dry ingredients and refrigerate 30 minutes.
Shape dough into 1 -inch balls.
Place on a greased cookie sheet and thumb press.
Bake for 15 minutes, cool.
Mix icing sugar, vanilla and water in a small bowl to form a thin glaze.
Dip cookies in glaze and place on wire rack to dry.
Store in an airtight container.
