Almond Butter Fingers

1.5 cup chopped, blanched or slivered almonds
1.5 tsp granulated sugar
.75 cup margarine
.33 cup sugar
1 tsp almond extract
2 c sifted flour
1 egg white, lightly beaten

Combine almonds with 1.5 tsp sugar and reserve.

Cream butter, .33 cup sugar and almond extract; stir in flour until well blended. FORM into ball and chill. Divide dough in half and roll into a rectangle about .25 inch thick on floured board.

Brush dough with half of beaten egg white and sprinkle with almond-sugar combo. Cut into 3 by .75" bars. (A pizza cutter works well for this; so does a zig-zag pastry cutter.)

Place cookies, about 1" apart, on cookie sheets and bake in preheated 350 oven until cookies turn crisp and are very lightly browned.
