Gingerbread Cut Outs
1/2 cup sugar
3 cups plain (all purpose) flour
1 teaspoon bicarb. soda
2 teaspppns ground ginger
125g /1/4 lb butter
4 tabs (Aus) = 3 fluid oz MINUS 2 teaspoons golden syrup (use corn syrup as a subs.- or check our the Cooks
Thesaurus online)
1 egg- lightly whisked
currants & icing for decorations if you wish
Sift dry ingredients into a bowl. Rub in butter. Add sugar and mix well.
Warm syrup slightly and add with egg to other ingredients.
Knead until smooth. Roll out on a lightly floured surface and cur with desired shapes.
Decorate with currants etc for eyes (if making gingerbread people) or leave until cooked if with to use ising or
spatter-type decoration (or decoration of preferred type).
Bake in 190C (380F) oven for 10-15 mins. Plac eon wire rack to cool.
Decorate as (or if) desired.
When cool, carefully make hole at top of 'shape' with a skewer. Thread through ribbon and tie onto tree. Alternatively, store in airtight container when cool.
