Grandma's Gingerbread Cookies

200 grams butter, in room temperature
2 1/2 decilitre (1 cup) sugar
1 dl (1/3 cup) cream
1 dl (1/3 cup) dark syrup
7 dl (3 cup) wheat flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground ginger

Put syrup and spices into a pot and bring into boil. Let cool. Cream sugar and butter, add the syrup mixture and cream. Mix flour, salt, and baking soda, mix thoroughly. Pack the dough into a plastic bag and place into the fridge. Let stand overnight.

Roll the dough in batches, cut into shapes and place on baking sheets. Bake in the oven 175°C, 350 °F for 7-10 minutes. Watch them closely, they'll burn in the second you turn your back. Yield: 70 – 80 3-inch-tall cookies
