Pistachio Buttons
2 cups flour, sifted
1 tsp baking powder
.5 tsp salt
.5 cup margarine
.75 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp almond extract
.25 tsp vanilla
1 square unsweetened chocolate, melted
.33 cup finely chopped pistachio nuts
10 drops green food coloring
Sift dry ingredients together. Cream margarine and sugar; beat in egg and flavorings. Divide dough in half and add chocolate to one part and pistachios and green food coloring to the other half. Chill until firm. Divide green dough into fourths and form each into a log 8" long. Divide chocolate dough into fourths and roll between pieces of waxed paper into flat pieces 8" long and wide enough to encircle pistachio logs.
FORM: Wrap each pistachio "log" in chocolate dough and wrap in waxed paper. To bake: Slice rolls into one eighth " slices and bake in preheated 350 oven for 8 min. Watch carefully! These burn easily and it is not easy to see this because the chocolate is on the outside.
