Molasses Cookies
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 cup molasses
3 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tea. salt
1 tea. baking soda
1 1/2 tea. ground ginger
1/2 teas. ground cloves
1/4 tea. ground allspice
raisins and sugar
Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Combine water and molasses. Sift flour with remaining ingredients except last 2. Add alternately to first mixture with water and molasses, blending well after addition. Chill overnight.
Roll out a small amount of dough at a time to 1/8 - 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with a 3 inch cookie cutter. Put on greased cookie sheets. Top each cookie with a raisin and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in preheated 350 for 10 to 12 minutes
