Sweet and Sour Shortribs

2-1/2 to 3 lbs. short ribs
Salt, pepper flour and lard or other fat
1 cup diced onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1-1/2 cups water
1 small bay leaf
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
1/3 cup ketchup
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1 teaspoon beef base


Trim Short ribs and roll in flour with salt and pepper. Brown all over in hot fat. Put into crockpot or dutch oven.

Cook onion and garlic in a little of the remaining fat until softened. Add to crockpot.

Mix remaining ingredients with 1 teaspoon beef base or salt and pour over meat.

Remove meat to a dish and keep warm. Skim off fat and thicken sauce if needed with a couple of spoonsful of Instant Flour. Correct seasoning. Pour sauce over meat. We serve this with noodles.

Cook in crockpot for 10-12 hours
In Dutch Oven for 3 hours
In Pressure cooker for 1 hour (reduce water to 1 cup)
