Lemon Ice Cream

2 cups sugar
2 cups milk
2 cups half-and-half
2 teaspoons grated lemon rind
1 cup fresh lemon juice
6 to 7 drops liquid yellow food coloring


Whisk together all ingredients, and pour into a 13 x 9" pan. Cover and freeze 1 hour or until almost firm.

Process half mixture in a food processor or blender until smooth, stopping to scrape down sides; return to pan. Repeat procedure with remaining mixture. Freeze at least 2 hours or until firm.

Yield: 6 cups.

To freeze in an electric freezer, double ingredients, pour into freezer container of a 5-qt. freezer. Freeze according to manufacturer's directions. Pack with additional ice and rock salt, and let stand 1 hour before serving.
