Whiskey Bread Pudding

1 loaf French bread, crumbled
1 quart milk
3 eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla
1 cup raisins
3 tablespoons butter

Whiskey Sauce:
1/4 pound butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg, well beaten
2 to 3 tablespoons whiskey


Soak bread in milk, crushing with hands until well mixed. Add eggs, sugar, vanilla and raisins. Stir well. Using all 3 tablespoons butter, butter the baking dish. Pour mixture into dish and bake at 350 degrees about 1 hour or until very firm. Cool.

For sauce, cream butter and sugar and heat in top of double boiler until dissolved. Add egg and whip quickly. Cool. Add whiskey. To serve, cut into individual servings, add sauce and heat under broiler.

Serves 6 to 8.
