Baked Fresh Apple Doughnuts

1 1/2 C. Flour
1 C. Sugar, divided
1 3/4 t. Baking Powder
1/2 t. Salt
1/2 t. Nutmeg
1/2 C. Shortening
1 Egg, beaten
1/4 C. Milk
1 C. Grated Apples
1/4 C. Melted Butter
1 t. Cinnamon


Mix together flour, 1/2 C. Sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Stir in egg and milk. Fold in grated apples. Fill greased muffin cups 1/2 full.

Bake at 350° for 15-25 minutes (depending on the size of the muffin tins). Cool slightly.

Remove from pans and dip tops in melted butter, then in remaining 1/2 C. sugar combined with cinnamon.

Makes 12-2 1/2" doughnuts or more of the smaller sizes.
