Blackberry Dumplings

4 cups blackberries
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 Tbsp. sugar
2/3 cup milk


In large pot, combine blackberries, 1 cup sugar, salt and lemon juice. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.

Combine dry ingredients in bowl. Stir in milk until well blended. Drop dough by Tbsp. (6) onto hot blackberry mixture. Cover tightly and simmer 15 minutes until toothpick inserted in a dumpling comes out clean.

Note: Spoon into dessert dishes and garnish with whipped cream, if desired.

Serves 6-8.
