Chocolate Dumplings

Chocolate Dumplings

3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 Tablespoon cornstarch
pinch of salt
2 cups water
1 Tablespoons butter

1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 Teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons cocoa
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup milk
3 Tablsespoons shortening, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine the first 6 ingredients in a large skillet and mix well. Heat until sauce comes to a boil and thicken slightly. Remove from heat.

Stir last nine ingredients together to blend and beat one minute. (It is important to beat for one minute.)

Return skillet to stove top, cover and heat until sauce comes to a boil. Drop dumplings by tablespoonsful into sauce. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Peek just once to make sure sauce is simmering. Serve hot with whipped cream or ice cream.
