Apple Slices

2 1/2 cup flour
1 cup Crisco (shortening)
2/3 cup crushed corn flakes
1 Tbl. sugar
1 egg, separated
1 tsp. salt
milk
5 cups peeled and sliced apples
1 1/2 cup sugar, mixed with 1 tsp. cinnamon
butter pats and vanilla
1 cup powdered (confectioners') sugar
1 Tbl. lemon juice


Sift together flour, sugar (1 T.) and salt; cut in Crisco. Put egg yolk into measuring cup and add milk to equal 2/3 cup. Add to flour/shortening mixture. Mix just enough so dough shapes into a ball. (Divide)
Roll out half of dough to 15x11 rectangle, transfer to baking sheet.

Cover with crushed corn flakes then with apple slices. Mix the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over apple slices. Dot with butter pats and vanilla to taste.

Roll out other half of dough for top crust. Place over apples, pinch edges together. Beat egg white til stiff, spread over top crust. Bake in hot oven (400º) for 40 minutes. When still hot, mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 1 Tbl. lemon juice and drizzle over the top.
