Bavarian Apple Torte
Serves 10.

Crust:
1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1/4 cup raspberry jam

Filling:
8 oz cream cheese, at room temperature
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg, at room temperature
1/2 tsp vanilla

Topping:
4 apples (Granny Smith or similar), peeled, cored, and sliced
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup slivered almonds


Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Grease bottom and sides of a 9-inch springform pan.

Crust: Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla. Stir in flour. Press over bottom and up sides of prepared pan. Spread with thin layer of jam.

Filling: Beat cream cheese and sugar. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Pour over crust.

Topping: Toss apples with sugar and cinnamon. Spoon over cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle with almonds.

Bake 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 400 degrees F; bake 25 minutes longer. Cool thoroughly before removing sides of pan. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Per serving: 363 calories, 21 g fat, 71 mg cholesterol, 41 g carbohydrates, 2 g fiber, 5 g protein, 171 mg sodium.
