Apple: Fresh Apple Doughnuts

Fresh Apple Doughnuts
(baked - like little muffins)

1 1/2 Cup Flour
1 Cup Sugar, divided
1 3/4 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/4 tsp. Nutmeg
1/2 Cup Shortening
1 Egg, beaten
1/4 Cup Milk
1 Cup Grated Apples
1/4 Cup Melted Butter
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Sift together flour, 1/2 Cup sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Stir in egg and milk. Fold in grated apples.

Fill greased muffin cups 1/2 full. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Cool slightly. Dip tops in melted butter, then in remaining 1/2 Cup sugar combined with cinnamon.

Makes 12 doughnuts.
