1 3/4 c. sugar
4 or 4 1/2 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 or 2 1/4 c. milk
5 or 6 eggs
4 Tbsp. margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
Vanilla wafers - according to taste
Bananas - according to taste
Preheat oven to 300.
In a saucepan, mix sugar, cornstarch and milk and cook until warm. Beat eggs, stir about 3 Tbsp of sugar – cornstarch mixture into eggs, then add eggs to remaining cornstarch mixture and cook, stirring, until thickened. Remove from heat. Add margarine and vanilla and stir until well combined.
Place vanilla wafers and bananas in dish and pour cornstarch mixture over them.
Beat egg whites until very stiff, adding about a teaspoon cream of tartar, 3/4 teaspoon cold water, dash of salt, sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla flavoring. Spread topping on banana pudding and bake until topping is golden
