1/2 lb Dessert Dates
4 1/2 oz.Almond Paste or Marzipan
1 tblspn Port,Rum or orange-flavoured brandy
sifted icing (confect.) sugar
about 20 roasted hazelnuts or almonds
3 1/2 - 4 oz. cooking chocolate, melted
Slit dates lengthways and pit.
Work almond paste by hand, adding port and just enough icing sugar to prevent sticking. Roll into a cylinder, slice and use to stuff dates.
Top each date with a nut, pressing into stuffing. Dip dates halfway into melted chocolate; chill briefly on greaseproof paper lined tray. When firm, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
