Homemade Peach Ice Cream

4 cups peeled ripe peaches, mashed
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups half-and-half
5 eggs, beaten
2 (14 oz.) cans sweetened condensed milk
1-1/2 cups milk
1 Tblsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. salt

Combine peaches and sugar in large bowl; stir well.

Combine half-and-half and eggs in a large saucepan, stirring with wire whisk until blended. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, 10 minutes or until mixture is thick enough to coat a spoon (do not boil!). Remove from heat and let cool.

Stir in sweetened condensed milk, milk, vanilla, and salt. Stir custard into peach mixture, and pour into mixing can of a 5-quart ice cream freezer. Freeze according to manufacturer's instructions.

Pack freezer with additional ice and salt, and let stand 1 hour before serving. Yield: 3-1/2 quarts.
