Anise Pear Compote
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon anise seed
1 teaspoon lemon juice
dash salt
1 1/2 lbs. firm ripe pears
1 large orange
1 grapefruit
1/2 cup seedless grapes
In a medium-sized pan, bring sugar, water,anise, lemon juice, and salt to a boil; reduce heat and simmer. Peel, quarter and core pears. Place in hot syrup and simmer until barely tender. Cool.
Peel orange and grapefruit removing white membrane. Cut into sections. Add orange and grapefruit sections and grapes to pears; gently mix. Chill. serves 4-5
