Sauerbraten Patties

Patties:
2 slices dry white bread, cut into 1/2" cubes
1/2 cup hot water
1 pound lean ground beef
1 small onion
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
2 T butter

Sauce:
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup water
5 whole cloves
3 bay leaves
6 ginger snaps, crumbled


Soften bread in water. Squeeze excess water with your hands. Add remaining ingredients except butter and mix thoroughly. Form into 4 patties and brown in the butter on both sides.

Mix remaining ingredients together. Pour over meat. Cook, covered, on low heat for about 30 minutes. Remove bay leaves before serving. Serves 4.
