Spicy Spareribs

3 lb lean short ribs
salt and black pepper -- to taste
1 (10.5 oz) can tomato sauce
3 tbsp cider vinegar -- or wine vinegar
1 small onion -- finely chopped
1 stalk celery -- finely chopped
1 clove garlic -- mashed
2 tbsp brown sugar
Place the short ribs seasoned with salt and pepper in a shallow roasting pan.
Bake uncovered in a 350°F oven for 1 hour. Remove from the oven and drain off the fat.
In a small bowl, thoroughly combine the tomato sauce with the remaining ingredients; pour the mixture over the ribs.
Return to the oven and bake for 30-45 minutes, basting occasionally. Serves 4-5.
